Worcester County is the easternmost Maryland county and the only one bordering the Atlantic Ocean. The economy of the county depends largely on agriculture (37% of its 111,835 acres) and a large part of that is devoted to the poultry industry.

Worcester is one of the youngest counties in the State but it does have quite a few historical locations within its boundaries, one of which is Nassawango Iron Furnace located near Snow Hill.

The Pocomoke River winds its way through the county is is bordered by Bald Cypress Swamps, the northernmost cypress swamp along the Atlantic Coast is also in Worcester County.

Worcester County got its name from the Earl of Worcester. It is the location of Ocean City, Maryland's only resort town on the Atlantic Ocean. The county seat is Snow Hill.
