I was born here in Maryland, but I attended elementary school in California. After returning to Maryland and finishing high school at Centennial High, I went on to study art in college. I graduated from the University of Delaware in 1986, and began a career in illustration working for a display company in Baltimore. Within a few years, I also became an art teacher. Now, I do both!
I have many interests and hobbies. I enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, canoeing, and camping. For exercise and fun, I enjoy jogging and swimming, as well as playing ice hockey and softball. I also like to read about other artists and church history. I love music and, of course, art! When I'm painting, my favorite mediums include watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils, and pastels. I enjoy making collage art as well, like the illustrations in the book Sam: The Tale of a Chesapeake Bay Rockfish. I especially like to paint landscapes, fish, and portraits. Finally, I enjoy writing my own stories for picture books. I usually write about things my own kids enjoy or things I remember from my childhood. Sometimes, just for the fun of it, I'll write or make up a funny story that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Writing and illustrating stories is a challenge, but it sure is fun, too! I live in Columbia, MD with my wife and two children, and two little furball cats named Tessa and Tina. |
