Ann Jensen

Ann Jensen lives in Annapolis, Maryland, in the three-hundred-year-old Sands house, which has been her family's home since 1771. As she grew up, she was told stories of families and life in Annapolis of years past. Her love of history, especially that of Annapolis, Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay, had begun. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland and has written books on the history of Maryland and the Bay and articles in many magazines.

Ms. Jensen is a member of the Annapolis History Consortium and the Maryland Writers Association. She has received the Historic Annapolis Foundation Community Award, Maryland Society of Professional Journalists Award, and the 2001 Literary Annie Award, which is given to someone who has made a lasting, significant, and inspiring contribution to an art form.

Her books include

  • Leonard Calvert and the Maryland Adventure - The story of Leonard Calvert, a quiet boy who grew up in Englan, and, when he was grown, led the first colonists to settle in Maryland. This is the story of how Leonard Calvert founded the Maryland colony and in the process proved that he was not a dunce or a blockhead.
  • The World Turned Upside Down - The story of a family (the Sands family)who lived in Annapolis during the Revolutionary War and shows the times that turned their world upside down. From the burning of the ship Peggy Stewart during the Annapolis "tea party" to the war's end, the five Sands children and their parents were a part of events that created a new nation.
